• Linux on ARMAvnet has unveiled a smaller, lower cost follow-on to its community backed ARM+FPGA based ZedBoard. The $199 Linux-ready MicroZed board is built with a Xilinx Zynq-7010 SoC, and can be used as either a single-board computer (SBC) or as a computer-on-module (COM) feeding 100 programmable GPIO signals into a carrier board.

The MityARM-5CSX builds on the Cyclone V’s mix of FPGA logic and dual-core 800MHz ARM Cortex-A9 processing power, adding two GigE channels, a PCI Express bus, and 145 GPIO lines.

  • Linux on ARMDeveloper AndrewDB has been working to get Ubuntu Linux up and running on inexpensive mini computers with Rockchip RK3066 processors for the last few weeks. Now he's released pre-alpha builds of Ubuntu 12.10 which you can install on the UG802, MK802 III, or MK808 mini computers.

  • Linux on ARMThe first stable release of openSUSE for ARM has just been announced. openSUSE 12.2 for ARM is officially available for the Beagleboard, Beagleboard xM, Pandaboard, Pandaboard ES, Versatile Express (QEMU) and the rootfs can be mounted with chroot, but "best effort' ports have been made for Calxeda Highbank server, i.MX53 Loco development board, CuBox computer, Origen Board and Efika MX smart top.Work is also apparently being done on a Raspberry Pi port which should be available for the next release.

  • Linux on ARMWe have initial support available for the ODROID-X platform, which uses the Samsung Exynos4412 ARM Cortex-A9 Quad Core CPU. The device also sports 1GB of RAM, 6 USB ports, HDMI and LVDS displays, and a 50-pin expansion port for standard wire interfaces. Graphics are powered by a MALI 400 GPU, with drivers expected in October 2012 for accelerated graphics.

For just $129 USD, the ODROID-X development board is very interesting with packing Samsung's quad-core Exynos 4412 ARM Cortex-A9 processors running at 1.4GHz per core, Mali-400 MP Core graphics, six USB 2.0 ports, 10/100 Ethernet, and support for running Android and/or Ubuntu/Linaro.

It's based on Overo EarthSTORMComputer-on-Module (Texas Instruments Sitara AM3703 @ 1 GHz, 512MB Flash and 512MB RAM) and consumes less than 2.5 W.

  • Linux on ARMVIA Technologies has announced the VIA VAB-800 Pico-ITX board powered by a Freescale i.MX537 (ARM Cortex A8) processor clocked at 800MHz or 1GHz depending on the requirements, with 1GB DDR3-800 SDRAM and support for eMMC Flash with a capacity of up to 64 GB. The VIA VAB-800 is an industrial board that can operate in a wide temperature range and targets high-end industrial and in-vehicle embedded applications.

  • Linux on ARMWe've added new installation instructions, a root filesystem, and packages to bring support to Olimex's OLinuXino board. This device is based on the Freescale i.MX233 SoC at 454MHz with 64MB RAM, 10/100mbit ethernet, audio in/out, and NTSC or PAL composite video out. It also provides a wealth of connectivity easily accessible over standard connectors which should inspire those looking for a device to run home automation or robotics to name a couple applications.
