This about compiling a Linux kernel source which you can boot from using your Angstrom distro. I'm assuming that you already have a working Angstrom MMC with you. I used the one that came along with the BeagleBoard XM, pre-installed with Angstrom.

  • Linux on ARMHere are some more benchmarks of the ODROID-X, a $129 ARMv7 development board that packs four Cortex-A9 cores along with Mali-400 graphics to provide a fairly impressive punch. There's even some comparative numbers to a Sony PlayStation 3 running Linux.

  • Linux on ARMThe Linux 3.5 kernel for Texas Instruments OMAP4 devices has finally been uploaded into the Quantal repository for Ubuntu 12.10. With the upgraded kernel release, here are some new benchmarks of the popular PandaBoard ES compared to earlier Ubuntu 12.10 development snapshots, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 11.10 from the dual-core Cortex-A9 ARMv7 development hardware.

  • Linux on ARMMK802 is a popular ARM based super micro computer which can plug directly into any HDMI output for an on the go media player, internet browser, game machine or for general use. It features 1.0GHz Cortex-A8 CPU and 500MHz GPU, 1GB DDR3 memory and 4GB flash storage. The stock Android can be replaced with Ubuntu Linux.

  • Linux on ARMWhile not as popular as NVIDIA's Tegra 3 ARM SoC, the Samsung Exynos 4412 quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 found on cheaply priced ODROID-X can actually outperform the quad-core NVIDIA ARM processor. Here are benchmarks of the $129 USD ODROID-X benchmarked against the NVIDIA Tegra 3 reference tablet and a PandaBoard ES running the Texas Instruments OMAP4460.

  • Linux on ARMThe ARMv8 64-bit architecture enablement, officially known as AArch64, is still ongoing for the Linux kernel. Back in early July were the initial Linux kernel patches for AArch64. The initial code drop consisted of about 23,000 lines of code to enable this 64-bit ARMv8 support in Linux. More on the AArch64/ARMv8 Linux enablement was talked about last month at Debian's DebConf 12.

Thanks to some recent work, mainly by Stefano Stabellini, we are now able to start our first guest domain, including paravirtual console disk and network devices!

  • Linux on ARMLinaro has planned 15 virtual conferences between Monday, August 13 and Saturday, August 18, 2012. Those online events will deal with the work done at Linaro, including software optimization, software QA, Android and Linux kernel development, Open Embedded on ARMv8 and more. Those conferences are public and anybody can join.   • Linux on ARMTexas Instruments has published their initial Linux kernel patches for providing support for their forthcoming Keystone platform, which is an interesting ARM-based platform dealing with many-core SoCs using Cortex-A15s.

  • Linux on ARMSupport for AArch64, the ARMv8 64-bit architecture, continues to move along within the GCC compiler world. Besides the recently published AArch64 support for the Linux kernel, developers with ARM Holdings have also been tackling the compiler support and other areas of the Linux toolchain.

  • Linux on ARMThe Raspberry Pi is a dirt cheap mini-computer with a Broadcom BCM2835 700 MHz ARM11 with Broadcom VideoCore graphics. A basic model with 2 USB ports, HDMI and Ethernet sells for about $35, and the developers plan to offer an even cheaper $25 model without Ethernet soon.

  • Linux on ARMCHIP DESIGNER Nvidia has replied to Linux founder Linus Torvalds' stinging criticism over the firm's lack of Linux video driver support by saying that it is one of the biggest contributors to the Linux kernel for ARM architectures.

  • Linux on ARMHere's an update on the LLVM/Clang vs. GCC compiler benchmarking on ARM hardware under Linux. Last month on Phoronix I shared a few basic benchmarks of GCC vs. LLVM/Clang Compilers On ARMv7 Linux. GCC 4.6.3 on Ubuntu 12.04 was doing much better than LLVM/Clang 3.0 from the Precise repository.
