  • Linux on ARMEarlier this week I posted some initial benchmark figures for the NVIDIA Tegra X1 on Ubuntu Linux. Those results showed much promise for this 64-bit ARM big.LITTLE SoC that also bears a Maxwell GPU, but that wasn't tested for the initial comparison. Here are a few more benchmark results from this Tegra X1, including an Ubuntu 15.04 installation to show the difference against the Tegra X1 on Ubuntu 14.10.

  • Linux on ARMNVIDIA's Tegra X1 64-bit ARM SoC running (non-Android) Linux is a beast! I was given access to a SHIELD Android TV that was configured to run Ubuntu Linux, which has led for some exciting benchmarks. In some workloads, the Tegra X1 comes up just shy of an Intel Core i3 "Broadwell" system. The Tegra X1 has me very excited about the future of ARMv8 hardware on Linux and NVIDIA's continued Tegra advancements.

There are no drivers to chase and new applications are always installed through the Linux equivalent of an app store.   • Linux on ARMMartin Wimpress, the lead developer and founder of the Ubuntu MATE project, an official flavor of Canonical's Ubuntu Linux operating system, announced the availability of a root filesystem of Ubuntu MATE 15.04 for ARMv7 devices.

  • Linux on ARMWe announced last week that the Ubuntu MATE operating system based on Ubuntu and built around the traditional MATE desktop environment was available for the Raspberry Pi 2 computer board.

  • Linux on ARMForlinx launched an SBC that runs Linux or Android on a quad-core i.MX6, and offers extras like WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, 3G, and an image sensor interface.

  • Linux on ARMGateworks recently launched another Freescale i.MX6 board part of theur Ventana family with Vetana GW5220 single board computer with Freescalei .MX6 dual processor, HDMI out, Ethernet, and a PCIe slot that takes modules adding WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/a, 4G Wimax, and 3G (CDMA/GSM) connectivity, as well as other compatible PCIe modules.

  • Linux on ARMSolidRun has added a high-end model to its cubic mini-PC line, claiming the 2 x 2 x 2-inch Cubox-i 4X4 to be the “smallest ARM quad core 4GB mini computer.”

  • Linux on ARMUgoos launched a $179 “UT3S” TV-PC that dual boots Android 4.4 and Ubuntu 14.10 on a 1.8GHz quad-core Cortex-A17 Rockchip RK3288, and supports 4Kx2K video.

  • Linux on ARMRohith Madhavan has made an Ubuntu MATE 15.04 image for the Raspberry Pi 2 which you can download or build yourself. The image is functional and based on the regular Ubuntu armhf base, and not the new Snappy Core, which means that the installation procedure for applications is the same as that for the regular desktop version, ie using apt-get.

  • Linux on ARMThe Internet of Things (IoT) is upon us. In a couple of years some of us might ask ourselves how we ever survived without it, just like we question our past without cellphones today. Canonical is a contender in this fast growing, but still wide open market. The company wants to claim their stakes in IoT just as they already did for the cloud. At the end of January, the company launched a small operating system that goes by the name of Ubuntu Snappy Core which is based on Ubuntu Core.

  • Linux on ARMEarlier this year, Online Labs launched a beta hosting program using custom-designed C1 dedicated servers powered by Marvell Armada 370/XP quad core processor. The company has now launched a commercial service called Scaleway providing hosting service on these baremetal servers for 9.99 Euros per month, or 0.02 Euro per hour, as well as a “Infinite Storage” service with 1GB data for 0.02 Euros per month.

  • Linux on ARMHiSilicon has showcased their latest server SoC and board at Linaro Connect Hong Kong 2015, with up to two processors with 32 Cortex A57 cores @ 2.1GHz, 8 DIMM DDR3 slots (up to 128 GB RAM), 12 SATA ports, 4 PCIe slots, 10GbE / GbE ports.

  • Linux on ARMThey have enabled the Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8064 (Snapdragon 600) with Linaro's Linaro OpenEmbedded based Ubuntu release. They have optimized it for video/audio capture encode/decode through software based encoding and optimizing HD resolution with hardware acceleration for video-chat.
